Elegy in D Minor (2024)

One of Sasha's earliest and most performed small ensemble pieces to date, Elegy in D Minor is a solemn and reflective composition for clarinet and piano at the intermediate level. A strong ability to play expressively is required for both the clarinet and piano parts, as the piece's emotion progresses from an almost nostalgic sense of sorrow to heartfelt longing and ultimately to its peak: hope. Elegy in D Minor emphasizes both instruments throughout each section of the piece. The piano introduction broadly outlines the main theme that the clarinet soon after picks up and embellishes throughout the piece. As the piece progresses, the piano will occasionally echo motifs exhibited by the clarinet, and both parts gradually increase in intensity until the inevitable climax, upon which an aftermath is wrought that links back to the main theme.
